Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is situated 19 km from Kozhikode. It covers an area of 3 km, surrounded by hillocks and provides a splendid view of the river mouth and the sea. It is home to hundreds of native and migratory birds. Vallikkunnu estuary (river mouth) is a paradise for thousands of verities of migratory birds which come every year for breeding and reproduction. They feed on the small fishes and insects on the marshy area under mangroves.

These birds come from different parts of the world including the Himalayan Ranges, Siberia, etc. They visit the place during the month of October and stay till march.

The mangroves (Kandalkadu) at Vallikunnu is a heaven for these migratory birds. Bird-watchers are frequently visiting the bird sanctuary from different areas.

As an honor to our bird sanctuary, postal department launched a Special Postal Cover on 05/06/2005.
